An Initiative of Bharat Educational and Social Charitable Trust, Puducherry, India
Every day, thousands of people travel on roads to work, school, college, and home. While roads connect us, they can also become dangerous when traffic rules are ignored. A single careless decision—speeding, riding without a helmet, texting while driving, or not wearing a seat belt—can change lives forever.
The Traffic Sense initiative of Bharat Educational and Social Charitable Trust, Puducherry aims to build a culture of responsible road behaviour through education, awareness, and community participation. Our mission is simple: to save lives by promoting safe and responsible road use.
"Every road user has a family waiting at home. Safe roads begin with responsible individuals making safe choices."
Traffic Sense is more than knowing traffic rules. It is the habit of making safe and responsible decisions every time we use the road—as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, passengers, or drivers.
Road accidents are among the leading causes of injury and death, especially among young people. Most accidents can be prevented by following basic safety practices.
Every accident affects not only the victim but also their family, friends, and the entire community. Safe roads begin with responsible individuals taking proactive care.
A quality helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious head injuries for two-wheeler riders and pillion passengers.
Remember: Protects only when securely fastened.Seat belts protect drivers and passengers by reducing impact during sudden braking or collisions.
Everyone in the vehicle must wear a seat belt.Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, reaction time, and concentration. Never drive after consuming alcohol.
Choose a designated driver or public transport.Using a mobile phone while driving or riding—even for a few seconds—can lead to fatal accidents.
Focus on the road. Calls and messages can wait.Speed limits are designed to keep everyone safe. Driving within limits gives you more time to react.
Reduces accident severity significantly.Always stop at zebra crossings and give pedestrians enough time to cross safely and comfortably.
Extra care for children and senior citizens. When you hear an ambulance, fire engine, or police siren, safely move aside and allow the vehicle to pass immediately.
A few seconds of cooperation can save someone's life.Children learn by observing adults. Parents, teachers, and community leaders should actively model safe road behaviour by:
Road safety is a shared responsibility. The Traffic Sense programme of Bharat Educational and Social Charitable Trust conducts:
Every road user has a family waiting at home. Choose patience over speed. Choose responsibility over carelessness. Choose life over risk.
